Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told reporters on Friday that reports indicate full security is maintained across the country and the participation of people at the ballot boxes is enthusiastic.
“Today’s elections are the symbol of Iran’s political independence,” said the President after paying a visit to the election office and casting his votes.
He went on to add that, “if before the Islamic Revolution, it was the foreign elements who took decisions on running the country, during this 37-year span of time, it has been the nation itself who has made decisions for the country.”
Highlighting the participation of people in a profitable investment that is the elections, President Rouhani said “today, our people will take one hour to go to the ballot boxes and cast their votes, and will reap the benefits of their votes for four years in the Parliament and eight years in the Assembly of Experts.”
He further considered the results of this ‘highly profitable investment’ as national security, peace, political dignity, hope for the future and economic prosperity.
“Today, political participation means hope for the future of the country, trust in the system and the government’s officials,” he said.
“The people’s active political participation raises our expectations for seeing their active participation in the economic arena as well, so that our country will be brought to a status that befits the true dignity of the nation,” he stressed.
The President assured the nation that the government, executive committee and the Guardian Council will all make every effort to hold a completely legal and secure election.
“I kiss the hands of all those who have cast their votes in the ballot boxes today,” he said at the end of his speech.
